How much does it cost to record?
$15 an hour for teens 19 and under.
Mixing is $20 per song without drums; $40 with drums.
A Sonnox Oxford mastering plug-in is applied at no charge. It brings up the volume and adds warmth.

How do I set up a time?
Call or text us at 573-0533 (24 hours a day).

Are you open weekends?
We can record you at a different studio on weekends; we prefer to record weekdays (up until 9pm) at Modesto Sound.

Do you record adults?
Yes, but the cost is a bit higher: $30 an hour. However we really appreciate adults recording here. All income received goes towards our mission of Empowering Youth . . . Job Training. . . Community Concerts, etc!

Does the recording sound professional?
Yes! Many artists have used their recording and won awards.

What do we bring?
We have instruments here you can use. Most guitar players bring their own guitars and amps. Bass players do not need to bring an amplifier. Drummers can bring their own cymbals and a double kick pedal if they want to. We have a digital piano, but often keyboard and synth players will bring their own keys & synths. Remember to bring enough money to pay for the recording time for that day.

How long does it take to record a song?
It depends on you! For example, you/your band is playing and how many times it takes to play the song until the performance is up to your standards. Then it matters how many instrument tracks are added after that (like extra guitar and keyboard tracks). Finally, vocals are done all by themselves on a final take. On average for a band, it takes between 2 to 4 hours per song.

Recording a single instrument, or guitar & singing at the same time, can be quicker. To prepare for recording songs that have only acoustic guitar and vocals, try playing the guitar separate from singing to see if you can do that well. If you can, then we will record the guitar first and the vocals second (keeping them separate gives us more choices when we mix).

What about extra CDs?
One CD comes free with the recording. We have a duplicator/printer that prints directly onto the CD any graphics or text that you want. The printed type are $1.50 each. They come with a clear front paper case.

When do we pay?
After the recording you pay that day (cash or check) for the hours spent recording. You can pay for mixing that day or when you pick up your CD.

Is there mastering?
Every mix has our Sonnox Mastering Plug-In used on it. For professional mastering (with specialized hardware and EQ application) consider the WaveParade master deal for $125 which is a special price for Modesto Sound customers..
