Hey, this is Paige! This would be my first blog. Sorry guys! I’ve been working on designing posters, labels, and other tasks! I’ve been working on writing THANK YOU cards for the past couple of days. I figured that it would be more considerate and heart-warming for our donors to receive hand written Thank You cards, so now, when I’m older, I will have carpel tunnel. Oh my. I enjoy it though.

Today marks the fifth day of interning at Modesto Sound for the 2010 Summer Internship Program. I was an intern last summer, and really enjoyed the experience and now I'm back hanging out with this year's interns :) Right now, everyone is working on their "Modesto Sound songs." Every year, the group breaks off into smaller groups and writes/records a song about the studio. There is music in the air- drum beats, piano melodies, guitar rifts, laughter and crazy lyrics. I really enjoy working with the interns here. Its really fun to meet new people, often young musicians who have a heart for learning and a soul for music. Most people wouldn't guess, but Modesto is packed full with musicians of all different genres. Just in the studio alone, we get a spectrum of people from different ethnicities, styles, ages, personalities; guys and girls alike.

Man! These past weeks have been pretty packed with things to do. Especially with our 2nd Annual Funraiser coming up! Just to let you know its a free concert so if you want to go feel free to be there and also we will be auctioning 2 guitars and many other prices. Its just something you cant miss. So going back to my past week...I finished recording Everleigh and to be honest there music sounds great.! I have also recorded people for the Oakdale Tourism CD and that as well came out good. I do gotta say that was alot of work, I think that was the most editing i have ever done in my life. I think it took about a week or so just for editing. yea that was something but anyways I also got to record Joni Loves Sydney while i was doing editing for the Oakdale CD and their from Oakdale so I thought that was cool...well thats it for now laters!! ***previous blogs*** Today was another fun day. I got to record Everleigh who were known as The Cottons back in the days. They only focused on getting the drums recorded today, and tomorrow they will record bass. That is a really cool way to record your songs, taking your time to make it a pro recording. Matt and Paige then got here at the studio to work on some raffle they are doing. They are fun to have around. I can't wait for tomorrow (why) because it will be another fun day at the studio but this time Lucky comes in. So it will be pretty interesting to hear what negative things he has to say this time about the recordings. O and the faces he makes man! they are Funny. Today at the studio i got to work on a web site for a bit but then i had to go to the store and do some things for brenda. Overall it was cool learning somthing new. O yeah then brenda and i strarted to talk about how our weekends went and about an idea i had about makeing a dance in Newman. She thinks the dance will be great. Its to bad it wont be here in modesto but im sure sometime soon we will plan something to do in the area. well thats all for today got to get ready for the walk thru at the new high school. Yeeeaah!!! Man this week at modesto sound was great! I got to record the panduhs, yum yum meow, and daniel alvarez. I also worked on some new brochures that we will release real soon. it was also fun working at gallo with the modesto staff again it was actually better then last time. i also got to kick back with lucky and watch him master the songs that were recorded. overall had a good time and looking forward to next week! I want to thank Modesto Sound and Brenda for all the fun and new things i learn. so thanks! Last week on Friday some of Modesto Sound staff including myself, got to experience working for the first time at The Gallo Arts Center. Brenda and I worked with lights, putting them up and arranging them. Josh Anderson worked with putting the stage and props together. We really got to see what it was like behind the scenes and how dangerous it can be. Overall we all agreed that it was a fun experience and can't wait to do it again. Then on Sunday we were called back to The Gallo Arts Center to take everything down and load up the trucks. We all found it really fun and less hard working then unloading the trucks. Still with all the dangers around us we still look forward to working there again. Over the summer I became an intern at Modesto Sound, and after being at Modesto Sound for sometime I really learned so much about recording. It didn't take me long to get really familiar with Pro Tools, and now being the Assistant Recording Engineer at Modesto Sound I couldn't be any happier. |

Another week and another large project to focus on before the school year ends, The concert is coming up this month and there's little time for pause as we get ready to start actively selling raffle tickets for our prizes. The gretch guitar looks amazing, and we have so many awesome prizes from a lot of different places. Personally I'd like to win the Italian Coffee from Starbucks, of course the guitar wouldn't be too bad either. Final stretch for the school year and the second annual fundraiser. ***previous blogs*** Last week was hectic with the show, and this week has had little reprieve. Even with the lower classmen testing and seniors waking up later, I find my self more tired than ever. I think it maybe the senioritis setting in. Its the final stretch down to graduation on June 3rd. But I've got to look more short sighted if I want to make it through this, so many things still left to do, only one month before graduation but we still have so much work left to do and in the end, graduation is just a small pause in the soundtrack of life. Well since the last blog, life has only gotten even more hectic. Yet I'm still managing to stay afloat, though every day the island in the disance doesn't seem to be getting any closer. Even still, Full Sail University told me over the phone that I had been acceped, and sent a letter of acceptance to me through the mail. I'm really excited, but now I have to make plans to get there and stay there. As if college wasn't enough the musical for the highschool is this weekend and next and all of this week has been nothing but 6 to 10 rehersals, which leaves little time for schoolwork or much of anything. I'll be glad in two weeks when the show is over and done with. Only a few more months now and I'm free! (or at least college bound) Well so far this spring break has been rather exciting, and very busy though it seems like I'm not doing anything to me, the hours of spring break just seem to disappear between the sleeping in and the errands. I started Tai Chi Chuan last Thursday and went this Tuesday as well. It's awesome and very relaxing and I'm going again today. They say I'm learning fast, but I'm not quite sure I've got all of the movements down correctly. At least I'm enjoying it. Only one more quarter to go till graduation, now the fun really starts. Today was a fun day, I actually was able to work on some songs today, choosing some 30 second samples. Ran some errands to the new Stanislaus Arts Council building, it's a really nice place and seems to fit the council rather nicely. After that me and Luciano headed over to MyTV26 to deliver a CD for airing, it was interesting seeing a video studio opposed to a sound studio, it has much of the same feeling, an area for the engineers, microphone stands in addition to camera tri-pods. As for everything else in life, still deciding between DeVry and Full Sail University... Leaning towards Devry, but I'd like to go to Florida! |

It's starting to get busy again in the live sound department. We have got three events coming up in May: Day of the Child, Green on the Stream, and our own fundraiser. For more information on these events go to the future events section on the Live Sound page. I am still putting together the line-up for the Day of the Child event at Gallo, and am excited to see how I did with picking the artists. ***previous blogs*** Alot has happened since I last updated this blog. The Modesto Sound crew (and girlfriends) attended the Stanislaus Arts Council awards. This ceremony congratulated many people on the board who give back to the community in so many ways......The three course meal that was served wasnt bad either ;) Our next event will be the Relay For Life fundraiser on April 10th at Pitman High School in Turlock at the Black Box Theatre. The show starts at 6 PM! I will be playing an acoustic set with a friend that night and I'm excited to play at a Relay For Life event. I have played at Relay For Life events for the past 6 years in Modesto, Ceres, and Turlock. For those of you who don't already know; Relay For Life is a huge fundraiser that is put on by the American Cancer Society. The event gives you the chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. Teams of people camp out at a local high school or park and take turns walking or running around a track. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the 24 hour event. Last week Brenda, Luciano, and I worked at the Gallo Center For the Arts. We worked as stagehands for the broadway play, Annie. I enjoyed the experience and learned some new things. I was assigned to the carpenters crew, and I'm glad that I was. We unloaded four freight trucks that had everything the play required (minus the actors). After the trucks were unloaded, we began piecing the stage together. We put together a huge orphanage. I was amazed to be able to step back and look at the orphanage and know that I helped build it. It was almost like playing with giant lego's! 2009 was my first year working as the Live Sound Manager. I met many people and learned more about sound amplification than I could have on my own. This job was a great fit for me because it helped me learn things that I could use as a musician too. I did everything from working the sound for acoustic songwriters to bands with instruments I had never heard of. Try to set up a microphone for an instrument that you don't even know where the sound comes from! If you like to make music, the behind the scenes work is just as fun. We are always looking for more sound crew members. If you are interested in an internship go to modestosound.com and sign up under the interns link! |

Guess who is back into blogging!?!? MEE!!! LoL.. (ok that's enough clowning around for now =P ) So I have joined the Internship here at the studio and OMG! it is so much FUN! =D The 1st day was last week, (Tue. the 15th) that day was basically going over how the intership is going to run, watching a few videos about how to record PSA's and tips about how to interview people, and we actually got to record some PSA's. Today was actually the 2nd day and we had a QUIZ! Didn't go so good for me today =( .. but hey i got my teacher at home (Luciano.. LoL =P ) and I know he'll be helping me out on learning things a lot better! Well he basically doesn't have a choice! Ha-Ha.. But yeah, after the wonderful quiz we got hands-on-training on how to set up for a Live event and how to put everything away as well. Then we got Hands on PRO-TOOLS! Which was very exciting on everyone.. well I believe so. Ok so on Pro-Tools what we did was that we edited the PSA's that were recorded last week.. very fun and interesting I must say. I know I definetly want to learn more on Pro-Tools, it is a very interesting program! So today was a very fun and interesitng day overall, and just can't wait till next week! Gotta study up for next weeks test! YIKES! Lucky's gonna be here so gotta study extra hard! Well everyone till next time.. BYE =D ***previous blogs*** Alrite,,, well not a whole lot hapened today,,,lets see...I came to pick up Luciano to take him out to lunch. (working man gots to eat =D) Then I went back home to get some chores out of the way, a few other things as well...(2many 2put LoL) and came back to pick up Luciano after his long day of work. It was a shame that I couldn't stay for long here at the studio today. Oh so I just remembered... so,,, Saturday the 14th we went to an award dinner which was really fun. Something very different, but exciting at the same time. We did like this dance (i think LoL) which was sort of akward at first but at the end ended up being really fun! After, the Modesto Sound Crew and myself, went out to eat some Tacos =D and went Bowling afterwards. It was a lot of fun! Matt won the 1st game, I won the 2nd (well technically Matt and I tied, but he gave it to me...Thanx Matt), and Luciano won the 3rd. So overall the whole day was full of excitement! Thanks for the invitation Brenda! Chow for now! =D
Ok,,, so today I actually brought my mom with Luciano and me to the studio, she got a tour of it by Brenda. It was a little funny to see her here,,, but at the same time exciting! She had been wondering for a good while what the studio looked liked,,, at the end she liked it and of course thought Brenda was a wonderful woman =) So after a lil while I left and of course, came back =) There was some company here at the studio so I just hanged out with Luciano looking up grants. Then I did a lil work for Brenda and after ended up here! LoL =D So yea...There's always something to do here at the studio (even though I don't work here LoL), but it's cool though because I actually get to learn new things. Well till nxt time. Bye =D
So this is my first time writing a blog here! Woo-Hoo! =) Well I guess ya'll can know a little bit about me... 1st of all my name is Faviola Mendez, I help out at times here at the studio whenever I make my boyfriend Luciano (which I'm sure a few of you know him) some company. I plan to be part of the internship this summer so I can get some more experience about how the whole recording business works out! Seems interesting, Looks interesting, and gotta say IT IS interesting!!! =D Today I actually got to experiment and learn how the CD duplicating machine works. At first i thought, "Oh man I'm so gonna get lost!" but I was actually able to get the hang of it quickly... which was very exciting for me by the way! LoL So i did a few copies that Brenda asked me to do (nuthing big you know) and they came out pretty cool... so proud of myself... and then later on the day a friend of Brenda's wanted a copy of a CD, so I was left in charge of that. Kinda nervous at first, but hey at the end she liked it! =) So yeah... helping out here at the studio has been a great experience and hope to continue learning more. So yeah, Thanks Brenda for everything... from hanging out here at the studio, to joining the team at Live Sound events! =) |

Let's try to make this one a shorter blog the last one was 4 paragraphs--not exactly succinct (spelling op). Today guitars were recorded for Everleighs' upcoming album; the final poster for the 2nd Annual Fundraiser was brought to the printer, the gardner fixed the sprinklers, and the cleaning people cleaned the studio. If you need a good cleaning crew--call Maggie at 596-7089--they are awesome. OK nice 'n short. ***previous blogs*** Hey--it's been awhile. Worked a 14 hour day today. Got here about 7am to get it tidy for the County Tourism visitors that are recording an Oakdale area drive CD. Bunch of nice people from Oakdale arrived even the Mayor and a cowboy too--oh yeah--the famous Cheese store owner was here. She's Dutch kind of like me. I'm about 47 things mixed together but my maiden name is Dutch so I can claim that. Then all the staff came in and did their various jobs. Paige and Matt worked on the raffle prizes photography and setting up thank yous to the sponsors. Matt caught up the books (finances). Luciano recorded all the Oakdale Tourism people and supervised Danny. Danny created a logo for a customer who is sponsoring us and needs a logo to go on the poster. Then Danny worked on a web site for a different customer. Finally Josh came in after working at an elementary school all day to catch up on the live sound stuff. He set up a photo shoot with Sydney Laurel for our 2nd Annual Fundraiser performers, posted on facebook (he'll do myspace from home), called artists for the Day of the Child event, and then he made mix CDs of local music to play at concerts. Not bad for a Wednesday! Tomorrow I go to Sunrise Rotary Club where they have breakfast and speakers. It's nice to hear from people that are working hard in this region and have had success. Well back to duplicating a few more CDs for playing between bands at LIVE concerts (making a rap/dance one and a disco one--gotta have variety). We already have the local ones made and reggae (my favorite) and blues, jazz, latin--you get the idea. ** Had a great MJC concert the other day and put the Modesto Bee article about it on the web today. Used the scanner to do it. Just getting to know the scanner. To see it go to: http://www.modestosound.com/livesound_past.htm and scroll to the very bottom of the page. Cheerio, Brenda Just got done recording the Panduhs--2 songs "I Saw You" and "Two Left Feet". They are a joy! If you haven't seen them live, you need to because they get everyone literally jumping. They did some station IDs for X106 and Channel 26 when they were done even though they were worn out. It is a lot of work to record. I took some photos and some other artist photos to put up on the artists page. So that's good; we'll freshen that page up--had a classical singer here yesterday--Joseph Rykert--so there is his photo to put up too! He made sure to wear his beanie for the photo--how to spell beanie? Well off to dinner somewhere. Well another day is just about over. Today I played music/drums--even recorded a couple of Cumbia tunes with my just-learned drum beats for that genre (Luciano was vocals & bass; Josh was guitar), and helped update the podcast page. Right now I'm listening to the Dan Bryan podcast. There's a few edits that could still be done like some long exclamations after questions, but it's pretty much a finished product. He did a great job answering all the questions though--what a lot of energy he has and devotion to helping students and teachers! I'm looking forward to working with him at Gregori High. I'm back with more neat typing. Well it's the weekend and I worked at Gallo Center for the Arts yesterday doing the load in and light set up for Annie. That's a good way to lose weight! We worked hard, but hey I did want to learn how to do lighting so I'm "stoked". Luciano and Josh were there too. Josh was a Carpenter and Luciano and I were Electricians (the lights = electricity). So the titles were cool. Paige got our new menu up on the website. It has the menu that drops down. So now I'm going through and checking them all and sprucing up the content. I know this blog page needs more blogs and even a way so people visiting the page can post blogs, and artists can blog. We'll get to that technology someday. For now, we'll post staff's thoughts and summaries. Hope you like it. Oh yeah, if you want to e-mail me your blog I might post that too. (geeze too many uses of the word Blog)
